Some Interesting Differences Between Hemp and Marijuana.

Historical Use:
Cannabis has an extremely long history of use. Although CANNABIS IS INDIGENOUS TO CENTRAL AND SOUTH ASIA, it spread all over the world very early in human history.
Humans in Taiwan were growing hemp as early as 8,000 BCE, the historical use of cannabis as a physical and psychological medicine began over 5,000 years ago. Researchers even found over two pounds of still green, highly potent cannabis in a basket near the recently discovered 2700 year old Ice Man.  It has been historically used by Jews, Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Taoists, Buddhists, and Atheists alike. Cannabis was even used by the ancient Greeks and Romans, as well as in medieval Islamic countries.
To understand the history and legality of cannabis you must also understand the history of hemp. The difference between these plants is that industrial hemp contains little to no THC (meaning it can’t get you high) and is also more fibrous and tough, making it more useful as a productive material. Additionally, HEMP SEEDS ARE HIGHLY NUTRITIOUS, CONTAINING THE MOST EASILY DIGESTIBLE PROTEIN IN THE WORLD, AS WELL AS A NEARLY PERFECT RATIO OF OMEGA 6 TO OMEGA 3 FATTY ACIDS.
As mentioned above, both plants were used all over the world for various purposes since time immemorial. It is usually claimed, at least by citizens of the United States of North America; that the plants were brought to the new world for the first time (in Chile) by the Spaniards in 1545.
However, Cannabis seeds may have been brought to Brazil in the 16th century by African slaves or even earlier by the first peoples to immigrate into the Americas. Definitely, cannabis, and hemp were used, WIDELY, in England and the Americas even before the United States of North America existed.
Both cannabis and hemp were grown in the original colonies by the boat load and exported to international buyers.  Hemp was used as a cheap yet high quality textile source for clothing and rope. It was also used to make paper products (the first two copies of the Declaration of Independence by the United North American Colonies were written on hemp paper).

OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATES OF NORTH AMERICA, HEMP IS GROWN IN MORE THAN 30 COUNTRIES. IN 2011, THE TOP HEMP-PRODUCING COUNTRY WAS CHINA, FOLLOWED BY CHILE AND THE EUROPEAN UNION. HEMP PRODUCTION IS ALSO EXPANDING IN CANADA, WITH THE COUNTRY’S ANNUAL CROP REACHING A RECORD HIGH OF 66,700 ACRES IN 2013. 
Besides appearance, Indica and Sativa plants are commonly believed to have different effects on their user. These effects include:
SATIVA-uplifting and energetic cerebral, spacey or hallucinogenic; best suited for day use.
INDICA-relaxing and calming, body buzz, or ‘couch lock’; best suited for night use.
However, no scientific study has confirmed these differences, and there is some doubt about their accuracy. In fact, history suggests a much simpler difference between Indica and Sativa.

THE ORIGINAL CLASSIFICATION OF CANNABIS INDICA WAS MADE BY FRENCH BIOLOGIST JEAN-BAPTISTE LAMARCK IN 1785.
LAMARCK OBSERVED THAT CERTAIN MARIJUANA PLANTS FROM INDIA WERE INTOXICATING AND COULD BE MADE INTO HASHISH. BUT TRADITIONAL HEMP CROPS, WHICH WERE MORE COMMON IN EUROPE, HAD NO MIND-ALTERING EFFECT.

Hemp and marijuana are two popular names for the cannabis plant; however there are distinct differences between the variety that is nowadays smoked; or otherwise ingested; and the varieties that were in the past, and are, commonly used for, or to make, a variety of foods, oils and textiles, such as rope, durable paper, and wearable fabrics and that are now used in; mainly plant-based plastics, or other MILITARY GRADE products, or fabrics.
Cannabis is believed to be one of the oldest domesticated crops (golden rod weed is a wild form, common along Canadian rural roads). Throughout history, humans have grown different varieties of cannabis for industrial and medical uses. Tall, sturdy plants were BRED WITH OTHER PLANTS WITH THE SAME CHARACTERISTICS.
OTHER PLANTS WERE RECOGNIZED FOR BEING PSYCHOACTIVE, AND WERE BRED SELECTIVELY; FOR MEDICAL, AND RELIGIOUS, PURPOSES. THE PRACTICE, EVENTUALLY, LEAD TO THE MANY UNIQUE VARIETIES OF CANNABIS THAT WE NOW KNOW, COLLECTIVELY, AS MARIJUANA.
According to ONE Canadian company that specialises in cannabis cultivation technology, “the core agricultural differences between medical cannabis and hemp are largely in their genetic parentage and cultivation environment”.
But, scientists, on the other hand, believe the early separation of the cannabis gene pool led to two distinct types of cannabis plants. The two species (or subspecies) of cannabis are known as Cannabis indica and Cannabis sativa.
Cannabis plants contain unique compounds called cannabinoids. Current research has revealed over 60 different cannabinoids so far, but THC is the most well-known. THC is credited with causing the marijuana high.
WHILE MARIJUANA PLANTS CONTAIN HIGH LEVELS OF THC, HEMP CONTAINS VERY LITTLE OF THE PSYCHOACTIVE CHEMICAL. This single difference is what most rely on to distinguish hemp from marijuana. For example, COUNTRIES LIKE CANADA HAVE SET THE MAXIMUM THC CONTENT OF HEMP AT 0.3%. ANY CANNABIS WITH HIGHER THC LEVELS IS CONSIDERED MARIJUANA INSTEAD.
In comparison, MEDICAL MARIJUANA produces anywhere BETWEEN 5-20% THC ON AVERAGE, WITH PRIZE STRAINS TIPPING THE SCALE AT 25-30% THC.
HEMP AND MARIJUANA PLANTS CONTAIN ANOTHER IMPORTANT CANNABINOID: CBD. HEMP PLANTS PRODUCE MORE CBD THAN THC, WHILE MARIJUANA PRODUCES MORE THC THAN CBD. INTERESTINGLY, RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THAT CBD ACTS TO REDUCE THE PSYCHOACTIVE EFFECTS OF THC, SEPARATING HEMP FURTHER FROM MARIJUANA.
Because hemp and marijuana are grown for different uses, and therefore require different growing conditions.
MEDICAL CANNABIS HAS BEEN SELECTIVELY BRED OVER GENERATIONS, and its characteristics are optimized in its cultivation environment 
TO PRODUCE FEMALE FLOWERING PLANTS THAT YIELD BUDDING FLOWERS, AT THE FLOWERING STAGE OF THEIR LIFE CYCLE.


In contrast, HEMP PLANTS ARE PRIMARILY MALE, WITHOUT REPRESENTING FLOWERING BUDS AT ANY STAGE IN THEIR LIFE CYCLE. Which is More Dangerous Smoking Weed or Tanning?

NOTE: Dr, Art Hister is Not mentioned in this post which is copyrighted by me; I do not claim that he agrees with; or endorses; any, of my opinions, or views.

Several of my readers have asked me this question. It is very difficult to answer, especially since I am not a research scientist. But, let us examine the question together, in an attempt to answer it, here are some of the facts. 
 We know that: 
While lung cancer is the one usually most thought about; one third of all cancers are caused by smoking.
  • A little little realized fact: many smokers already suffer from gastric/intestinal problems, including other forms of cancer, caused by the many toxins, and this situation will only escalate with  increased use of marijuana. 
  • Up to a third of cancers are caused by obesity and lack of exercise.
  • Not only is the skin damage caused by exposure to UV radiation: it is also a potential source of cancer; and it opens the way for many other infections; which in turn compromise the immune system; opening the way for still more disease and/or infection.
  • Exposure to UV radiation is accounting for a rapidly increasing number of cancers.
  • Skin cancer occurs in people of all skin tones.
  • Most of the two million plus skin cancers diagnosed each year in North America are considered SUN/UV RELATED.
  • Half of all cancers could be prevented, if people just adopted healthier behaviours. Instead of attempting to do so, many North Americans     because of their love for extreme, no real chance to win, gambling; (so much that through playing Russian Roulette-a compulsion toward slow suicide-they seem determined to make it a certainty, that at some time in their lives, they will be diagnosed with cancer) refuse to do so.
  • Tanning/UV exposure also causes Actinic or Solar Ketosis  (which is a concern because it can progress into cancer), eye damage (cataracts), and PREMATURE AGEING.   
What is cancer?
In the simplest terms, cancer is a disease initiated by your own body, where your own cells start to proliferate madly and uncontrollably, until these cancer cells disrupt normal systems and eventually kill the body.
If you think about it, it's kind of like unintentional suicide. However, there are ways to control or even prevent this deadly disease. Find out about the most common cancer-causing agents (both artificial and natural), and how to decrease your risk of developing it.

There are two Main Types of Skin Cancer
·         Melanoma
·         Non-melanoma
Melanoma is the less common, but more dangerous form of skin cancer, and accounts for most of the death due to skin cancer each year. Melanoma is cancer that begins in the epidermal cells that produce MELATIN (melanocytes).
Non-melanomas (basil cell and squamous cell carcinomas) occur in the basil or squamous cells located at the base of the epidermis, both inside and outside the body. Non-melanomas often develop in sun-exposed areas of the body, including the face, ears, neck, lips, and back of the hands.

Astonishing Findings
In North America alone, there are more than 30,000 chemicals, either manufactured or imported from abroad, that have been proven to or are suspected of causing cancer. In the past, cancer was believed to be caused by certain types of viruses; however, it is known now that more than 80% of all cancers are caused by behavioural factors and are fully under human control. Obviously, for whatever reason, many North Americans actually want to get some form of cancer-it has become a sort of status symbol or possibly they are hoping to use it as an excuse for an unfulfilled life. 

Not-So-Astonishing Findings
Poor diet, (including the  consumption of pet foods, and other highly processed foods-including breakfast cereals and meats[including those containing "pink slime"which every day is being proven not to be safe]), especially among CHILDREN, seniors, and others on “fixed” incomes; who often have few dietary sources and are forced by our government to EXIST at income levels far below the poverty line is one of the leading causes of cancer. 
This is a huge drain on our Health-care System and again, it is at least 80% preventable--if, instead of looking strictly at their own pet area of interest bureaucracies, governments, and other cavil servants would learn to look at "THE BIG PICTURE". The government could easily save average Canadians, the tax payers, millions; simply by getting their priorities straight, and ending the need for "Food Banks"by spending more to eliminate this intolerable situation; instead of wanting to legalise marijuana and thereby increasing it.
However, it still boggles me, to this day, how millions of other Canadians and North Americans; who can afford better-- and know better-- disregard their own health. They continue to smoke and drink on a regular basis. They continue to tan and use tanning beds.
Again, three of the leading causes of cancer in our nation are tobacco smoke, exposure to U V radiation, and poor diet.
These three factors are responsible for more than two thirds of all cancers diagnosed each year.
(Another interesting finding is that chemical pollutants only account for about 5% of all cancers diagnosed each year.) This number could be even higher since it's extremely difficult to calculate exactly what effect these pollutants have on the general population.
Less Exposure, Less Risk,
Less Gambling at Russian Roulette 
More Thought of the Rights of Others,
More Love of Self, 
More Government Doing it's Job,
More Love of Family,
 Then, But only Then,
Most Cancer is Entirely, 
Preventable
The simple truth of it all is that the less you are exposed to carcinogens (the term commonly used for cancer-causing agents), the more you really care, the better your diet, the less risk you have of developing the disease.
In fact, cancerous cells are commonly present in our bodies on a regular basis, but do no harm, since healthy immune systems detect the cancer cells and eliminate them right away.

What we Have Found
It does not really matter which is the more dangerous; both represent very expensive, very selfish, very thoughtless activity; and both are very avoidable.The risks associated with indulging in either -- "PLEASURE"???-- are just too costly for all; and not worth taking. 
There are far too many people indulging in such "No Brainers".

B.C.’s Chief Medical Officer Joins Call to Legalise Pot, Soon, ALL NARCOTICS.

Of course, in order to comply with-already existing-Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Law, he must now support a call to legalise ALL narcotics.

There has been an active lobby, lead by Dr. Evan Wood, of healthcare professionals and former politicians calling for the legalisation of the marijuana industry.
The latest to speak out in favour of this proposition is Dr. Perry Kendall, B.C.’s Chief Medical Officer.
Dr. Perry Kendall, B.C.’s chief provincial medical health officer, has joined four former Vancouver mayors and four former B.C. attorneys-general in calling for an end to the criminalization of marijuana.
Kendall  issued a statement today calling on the federal government to enact a health-based strategy towards pot. And he criticized current law enforcement efforts as “ineffective.”
“The fact cannabis is illegal doesn’t diminish access rates. The so-called war on drugs has not achieved its stated objective of reducing rates of drug use. It’s universally available in B.C. and the supply is controlled largely by criminal enterprise,” Kendall told The Sun.

Can B. C.'s Chief Medical Officer, and the other mental giants, who are pushing to legalise this NARCOTIC, not realise that by so doing; we would soon have to LEGALISE ALL NARCOTICS, ALL STREET DRUGS and ALL--even remotely related CRIMINAL ACTIVITY?
Does he, and the others, really believe that organised, criminal enterprise; which controls all illicit supply and demand; or that drug addicts, and other consumers of such products, would fail to claim discrimination under THE HUMAN RIGHTS ACT?

Legalising any narcotic is not going to reduce the problem. Quite the contrary, as even more young kids would start experimenting with the new legal "pleasure"toy, while the true addicts; who would not be able to afford the heavily taxed, legal version, would continue to buy off the street.

Because the criminal element would undoubtedly see. fit to raise their prices, to be more in line with the heavily taxed legal product, there would be more petty crime and ultimately, as costs go up, even more inflation. 

If marijuana were to be legalised, more people would begin to openly "smoke-up" in their vehicles. So,there will be more accidents and more traffic fatalities.  
Our police departments and law enforcement officials would soon become powerless.The bottom line: if such legislation is ever passed, it will not make or save money: it will cost taxpayers, one hell of a lot, more.

Every Three Minutes, Another Canadian CHOOSES TO PICK a Fight With Cancer

Even Though Studies Find, Two-Thirds Of All Cancer Cases Are Largely Preventable and 80% of cancers are caused by behavioural factors and are fully under human control.

WASHINGTON: Half of all cancers could be prevented if people just adopted healthier behaviors, US scientists argued on Wednesday.
Smoking is blamed for a third of all US cancer cases and being overweight leads to another 20 per cent of the deadly burden that costs the United States some $226 billion per year in health care expenses and lost productivity.
For instance, up to three quarters of US lung cancer cases could be avoided if people did not smoke, said the article in the US journal Science Translational Medicine.
Science has shown that plenty of other cancers can also be prevented, either with vaccines to prevent human papillomavirus and hepatitis, which can cause cervical and liver cancers, or by protecting against sun exposure, which can cause skin cancer.
Society as a whole must recognise the need for these changes and take seriously an attempt to instill healthier habits, said the researchers.

Exercising, eating right and refraining from smoking are key ways to prevent up to half of the deaths from cancer in North America expected this year, a toll that is second only to heart disease, according to the study.
But, a series of obstacles to change are well enshrined in all of North America; and especially in the United States, which will see an estimated 1,638,910 new cancer cases diagnosed this year.
Those hurdles include scepticism that cancer can be prevented and the habit of intervening too late in life to stop or prevent cancer that has already taken root.
Also, much of the research on cancer focuses on treatment instead of prevention, and tends to take a short-term view rather than a long-term approach.

Marijuana may be Even More Dangerous to Your Health Than Cigarette Smoke


Emphysema is a chronic respiratory disease where there is over-inflation of the air sacs (alveolar) in the lungs, causing a decrease in lung function, and often, breathlessness.

Presently, heavy cigarette smoking causes about 80-90% of all emphysema cases. Cigar and/or pipe smoking can also damage the lungs but a person may be less likely to inhale cigar and pipe smoke. Marijuana smoke may well be the most damaging of all, because it is inhaled deeply, and held in by the smoker.

A few cases are the result of an inherited deficiency of a substance called alpha-1-anti trypsin (AAT). The number of North Americans with this deficiency is relatively small, probably no greater than 70,000.

Emphysema is the most common cause of death from respiratory disease in North America, and is the fourth most common cause of death overall. It is now well documented that cigarette smoking can, and does, cause lung cancer. So does the smoking of Marijuana.

Tanning and Tanning-bed Addiction

A study, conducted in 2005, found that tanning and tanning booth appeared to have addictive properties. A newer study has confirmed that tanning could indeed be addictive, in much the same way opiates like heroin and morphine are. We've shown that some tanners actually experience withdrawal symptoms "feel good"(endorphins-opiates within the brain) are blocked, said researcher Mandeep Kaur.

SMOKING HEAVILY DURING MIDLIFE INCREASES THE RISK OF DEVELOPING ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE BY MORE THAN 150%

A new study has revealed that smoking heavily during midlife increases the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease by more than 150%.


Long Known to Increase the Risk of Cancer, Heart Disease and Strokes-- Smoking Doubles the Risk of Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia.
A new study has suggested that heavy smoking during middle age greatly increases the chances of developing Alzheimer or other dementia later on in life (Alzheimer can only be definitely determined after death).
Lead researcher Rachel A. Whitmer had this to say: “We found that people who reported heavy smoking in midlife had more than a 100 percent increase in risk of Alzheimer disease and vascular dementia. We have known that smoking is a risk factor for cancer, stroke and cardiovascular disease, this adds to the evidence that what is bad for the heart is bad for the brain.”
According to the results, the risks of developing the disease did not vary according to race, gender, or any other factor. As previous studies have shown, there is some link between Alzheimer and dementia and smoking. It has also been suggested that smoking is a huge risk factor for stroke, and it may also add to the risk of vascular dementia which causes small clots on the brain.
The results of the new study are likely to shock many people. It has been known for a very long time that there are a huge amount of risks that area associated with smoking, particularly for smokers who are middle aged or older. However, whatever age the smoker is, there are always going to be risks, and Alzheimer is just another one to be added to the very long list of diseases that can be triggered by smoking.

A terrific study published recently online in the Frontiers of Neuroscience took some elderly adults (60-80 years old) and divided them into two groups.

One group was told to increase their aerobic activity by brisk walking most days of the week, the other group (the control group) was told to do toning, stretching and strengthening exercises.

At the end of 6 months, there was no measurable difference in the two groups.

But at the end of a year, the aerobic group had improved scores on cognition testing including the all-important areas of memory and attention.

Not only that, but the researchers claim that, based on imaging scans of their brains, the aerobic group’s “neural network connections” were similar to those of 20-30-year-olds, and although in most ways, you probably never want to be a 20year-old again, it doesn’t hurt to have the brain of one, so long, of course, as you can choose better music than they choose.

You follow the program and to your surprise, it doesn't work. You're up late one night and you happen to catch an infomercial for a "revolutionary" new product for "six pack abs". So you place an order, you use it for a few weeks and still, nothing!

Well, for starters, if it sounds too good to be true - it usually is. I know you've heard that before but when it comes to the diet programs and exercise products, you really have to keep your guard up. Marketers in ANY industry will play on your emotions and attempt to sell you all kinds of JUNK.
Food Makes Fat: Face the fact—food, and food, alone makes fat. Do Not fool yourself with all that “AIRY” (politician-professional athlete style) nonsense—lots of words that mean-say—absolutely NOTHING. Do not be one to repeat--
“I’m not eating enough to keep a sparrow alive”.
Do not fall for the now very, very, common and highly promoted belief: Several small meals a day five-six- seven- nine –ten- maybe MORE are better than three larger ones.
 In some cases, this can be true, but it definitely is NOT necessarily true. If, you do not eat regular, planned, meals –at the table; you probably, snack between times—usually on “junk” food, and would be absolutely horrified if you were to, just once, sit down and accurately calculate just how often that is—and just how many EXCESS UNNEEDED, UNWANTED CALORIES YOU ARE CONSUMING.
In terms of what causes fat, it all has to do with THAT—your total calorie intake. A calorie is a unit of energy and when you take in more calories than you burn, that extra "energy" gets stored as fat. Therefore, when something says "fat free", you need to remember that it still has calories - as everything you eat does - and it more than likely has a lot of sugar.
That being said, don't become of those people who assumes that since fat results from stored calories, not eating in general is a legitimate solution. This is the absolute worst thing you can do! Not eating will just end up making you fatter in the end. When you eat, how you eat, is equally important.
Mealtime is important—Usually it is best to: Take time to sit down--eat a proper balanced meal--focus on-- the fact that you are eating and what you are eating.
Give your brain time to realize and record that you have eaten--Gulp and dash just does not work.
For most of us, the greatest intake of calories should be in the morning--before we begin our most active time.
When you drastically restrict your intake of calories - as most "diets" will do - your body adapts by going into what is known as "starvation mode". When in "starvation mode", your body slows the rate at which it burns calories (metabolic rate) in order to conserve nutrients and bluntly put - survive!
Sure, you'll lose weight initially with these "diets", but what do you think is going to happen when you go back to your regular eating habits now that your body is burning calories at an even slower rate? Yup, you guessed it - or at least I hope you did - you're going to get even fatter than you originally were!
